His teacher advised him to join an idol company so he audition for Big Hit. Before joining the company in 2012, he was a Busan Arts High School student studying modern dance. As a trainee, V worked on the Mariah Carey remake with J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook that was later released as an MV in October, 2013. He auditioned by chance after accompanying a friend who wanted to audition for Big Hit and was the only person who passed. Before joining the company later in 2011, he was just a normal student with the dream of pursuing music one day. He participated in some of the groups pre-debut tracks and had a few MV Cameos. 
As a trainee he went to the United States to improve his dancing. He had seven companies offer him a deal but chose Big Hit because he thought "RM was cool". Dark&Wild Dark&Wild was BTS’ first full album which was released on August 19, 2014. The repackaged album contains two new tracks, Miss Right and I Like It (Slow Jam Remix), and six instrumentals. Before joining BTS in 2011, he auditioned for Super Star K3 but did not make it to the final show. BTS released the repackaged version of the album titled Skool Luv Affair Special Edition on May 14, 2014.
